Workplace Giving

Many employers offer the opportunity to make tax-deductible donations through payroll giving, match charitable contributions made by employees, or even offer monetary donations for volunteer hours logged with a non-profit.

Payroll Deductions ← How to Get Started

Many employers offer the opportunity to make tax-deductible donations through payroll giving. These programs may have an annual or ongoing enrollment, and may either be run through third parties like Benevity or the United Way, or directly through your employer. Your donation is typically split between each pay period, resulting in a recurring, manageable deduction from your paycheck.

Why payroll deduction may be a great fit for you:

  • It’s easy: You only need to set up your gift once (recurring) and your employer’s system takes care of the rest.
  • It’s bite-sized: Spread your giving from your payroll throughout the year to keep it affordable to you.
  • It’s tax-deductible: Reduces your tax burden by donating pre-tax vs donating later from your taxed income.

Donation Matching ← How to Get Started

Many private and public employers offer the opportunity to match donations made by employees to non-profit organizations, like Second City Curling. Most offer these through 3rd party Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platforms like Benevity, YourCause, Double the Donation, Millie, etc.

Why donation matching is so impactful:

  • It’s impact is doubling: Whether you donate via payroll, or other methods, many employers match 50-100% of your donation – typically only requiring you to submit a donation receipt.

Volunteer Rewards ← How to Get Started

Many private and public employers offer the opportunity to earn cash for every hour an employee volunteers for a non-profit organization. That earned cash can then be directed toward to non-profit organizations. Some also provide annual charitable grants. Most offer these through 3rd party Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platforms like Benevity, YourCause, Double the Donation, Millie, etc.

How volunteering can make a lasting impact:

  • It’s selfless: Second City Curling is 100% volunteer-operated. Every hour you can contribute helps promote and grow the sport of curling in Northern Illinois.
  • It’s impact is doubling: Many employers will reward non-profit volunteerism with cash credit to donate to the charity of your choice – typically only requiring you to submit the date and duration of your volunteer work.
